About Team 236
Team 236 was founded in 1999 by a group of like minded
mentors and students. They realized that things like robotics and computers were
the future, and that in order to get on board they had to learn about it first
hand, and FIRST gave them that opportunity.
Through the years, the team has grown to
involve more than 10 percent of the school, and it is well known throughout the
community for its spirit and enthusiasm for everything from robots to community
service. The team is based on the idea that the kids are in charge, and that has
never been more true than now. This year, the lack of mentors forced the
students to step up, and that they did. The overall design was created and built
by students, with the mentors planning out the smaller details.
Team 236 is an active member in the
community and the world. We help the FIRST Lego League by sponsoring and
designing the state tournament, and building the competition tables used for it.
We also sponsor new teams around the area, such as Apple Pi, Team 2067, from
Guilford, CT. For the past two summers, one of our mentors has visited Israel
and Palestine, and helped form teams. In fact, last summer a group from
Palestine came and visited the school for a day, and we were chosen to show them
around, and especially show them our robot.
The team embodies the ideas of FIRST.
Our infectious spirit spreads throughout the community, involving everyone
around us in what we do, and spreading the message of FIRST.
